MAGNETO-OPTICAL INVESTIGATION OF CRYSTALS IN STRONG MAGNETIC FIELDS. I. EXPERIMENTAL PULSE METHOD (in Ukrainian)

A description is given of a simple pulse method for investigating magneto-optical phenomena of the Zeeman type in strong magnetic fields. The proposed method consists essentially in photographing the spectrum of the crystal in bright, brief ( st run. Concent 10/sup -5/ sec) flashes of light synchronized with the maximum pulse of the magnetic field. The field is created by a battery discharge through a small-sized solenoid containing the investigated crystal and cooled by liquid helium, hydrogen, or nitrogen directly in the optical Dewar. The Zeeman effect in a CaF/sub 2/ + Ho crystal is presented as an example of the possibility of magneto-optical investigations in magnetic fields of up to 150,000 oersteds. (auth)
