Results of measurement of the brightness of light flashes from a pulsed discharge in argon are presented for argon in a quasistationary magnetic field H = 150,000 Oe and for a zero field; the gas pressure was varied between 20 and 740 mm Hg. At pressures of 20 and 100 mm Hg the brightness of the discharge flashes was found to increase at 150,000 Oe. At the initial stage of development of the discharge in a field H = 150,000 Oe the rate of expansion of the discharge column is lower than that in the absence of an external magnetic field. (auth)
