ANION EXCHANGE OF METAL COMPLEXES. IX. THE EFFECT OF CROSSLINKING

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4717320
Distribution coefficlents for Zn, In, Ir(III), and iodide tracers between NaCl solutions and 2, 4, 8, 10, 16- and 24%-crosslinked Dowex-1 quaternary ammonium anion exchange resins were obtained. The data, corrected for resin invasion and complex formation in solution, yield parameters for the various resins, independent of the chloride concentration. The dependence of these parameters on the crosslinaing is much higher for the doubly charged Zn complex in the resin than for the singly charged resin species obtained with In, Ir(III), and iodide. This dependence is explnined on the basis of ion pair formation in the resin, using for the effective dielectric constant quantities calculated from the water contents of the various resins. (auth)
