The patent describes a nuclear fuel element casing having a cylindrical body and fins, the fins forming in circumferential direction alternately two types of sets of portlons of helices. Each set, the direction of which is longitudinal, is composed of portions of helices which are paraIIel to one another, but the direction of which is opposite to that of the helices in the adjacent set. Either narrow longitudinal passages without fins can be provided between adjacent sets, or the fins of adjacent sets can be connected to form complete herring-bones right round the body of the casing.
