A process for preventing a chemical reaction of the carbon dioxide coolant with the graphite moderator in a nuclear reactor consists in continuous introduction of gaseous hydrogen into the coolant before it passes through the reactor, in continuous elimination of the formed steam, and in controlling the carbon dioxide fraction in the coolant by catalytic combustion with gaseous oxygen.
