THE EXTRACTION OF URANIUM(VI) FROM SULPHURIC ACID SOLUTIONS BY TRI-N- OCTYLAMINE

The partition of uranium(VI) between sulphuric acid solutions and solutions of tri-n-octylamine (TOA) in benzene was investigated at varying concentrations of sulphuric acid, solvent, and uranium and at different temperatures. The extraction of sulphuric acid and the water content of the organic phase was also examined, and infrared spectral studies made of the organic solutions. The mechanism of uranium extraction is discussed on the basis of the results obtained. (auth)
