>The EMIA-1 pulse ionization chamber is designed for the absolute measurement of the alpha activity of sources, where the intensity is of the order of several tenths of a microcurie. The apparatus is easy to operate and gives reproducible results. The characteristics of the EMIA-1 are reported, and a schematic is given. (J.S.R.)
