THE DISCHARGE CHAMBER DEVELOPED AS AN ALPHA PARTICLE DETECTOR

Journal Article · · Energia nucleare (Milan)
OSTI ID:4100416
The design and operation of a discharge chamber, similar to a Wilson chamber. for the detection of low-energy alpha particles is described. The chamber consists of two flat parallel electrodes in a gas atmosphers (99% neon and 1% argon) at atmospheric pressure. A schematic diagram of the device is given. A pulsed voltage of 16 kv with a rise >s/sup 8/ sec and a decay time of 10/sup -7/ sec is applied to the electrode. The instrument is very stable with reproducible results. (J.S.R.)
