For alpha sources there is often the problem of determining, sometimes simultaneously, both the source activity and the spectral distribution of the alpha emitted. In the Laboratory for the Measurement of Artificial Radioelements ionization chambers are generally utilized. The characteristics of several types of ionization chambers are given, and the methods used for alpha measurements are discussed. (J.S.R.)
