AN ELECTROMETER AMPLIFIER (in German)

For industrial thickness measurements with gamma radiation from radioisotopes, an extremely sensitive amplifier, which responds to currents as low as 10/sup -12/ amp, was constructed. The amplifier is very reliable, has small zero-point drift, is sturdy in construction, and draws as little current as possible. A transistorized amplifier with an electron tube pre-amplifier were used for low-drift. To obtain favorable matching conditions for the transistor and high input resistance of the input current not working on the feedback principle, the pre-amplifier was constructed as a cathode follower The countercurrent resistance was 10/sup 10/ to 5 x 10/sup 12/ OMEGA , and the voltage drift was only 10 to 30 mv, The temperature dependence was very low (about 0.1% per 1 deg C), current drift was 10/sup -14/ amp, and accuracy of the grid current of 10/sup -14/ amp was about plus or minus 1%.
