A prism BETA spectrometer, and a scintillation gamma spectrometer were used to determine the K conversions and gamma transitions in a radioactive sample of Tm/sup 166/ (T/sub 1/2/ = 7.7 hr) which was in equilibrium with its parent Yb/sup 166/ (T/sub 1/2/ = 58 hr). The energies of the conversion eiectrons were determined as the average of the results of four series of measurements. The relative intensities of the K-conversion electrons are tabulated. The energies of the gamma -ray intensities were determined with the 758.9-kev gamma transition being taken as a reference. The results of this study agree better with those of Grigor'ev et al STAIzv. AN SSSR, ser. fiz., 25, 1217 (1961)! than they do with those of Harmon et ai STAPhys. Rev. of the higher- lying 2134 and 2161 kev energy levels in Er/sup 166/, the conversion coefficients for these gamma transitions were measured and compared with the known conversion coefficients of the 662-kev gamma transition of Ba/sup 137, and the 2614-kev gamma transition in Pb/sup 208/. The intensity of the K-conversion line for the 2054-kev transition was a factor of 3.2 greater than that for the 2080-kev transition. The value of alpha /sub K/ for the 0.0011. Hence, both transitions, or at least the 2054-kev transitions, have an M2 multipolarity. The parity of the 2134-kev level is negative. The most probable spin of this level is 3. (TTT)
