A magnetic and scintillation spectrometer and a proportional counter were used to study the BETA spectra and gamma radiation of 27-hr Ho/sup 166/. Ho/sup 166/ was obtained by irradiation of Ho/sub 2/O/sub 3/ in a reactor and in a cyclotron and separating the reaction products in ion-exchange columns. For the Ho fraction an activity decrease with a half-life period of 28.8 plus or minus 0.2 hr was ascertained. The limiting energies and intensities of the partial BETA spectra were established, and the intensities of the high-energy gamma transitions in the decay-product Er/sup 166/ were determined. The three lowenergy BETA components of the Ho/sup 166/ decay were detected by means of BETA - gamma coincidence measurements. The limiting energy of the BETA transition from the 1824-kev level of Er/sup 166/ was determined to be 35 plus or minus 5 kev. (tr-auth)
