THE SEPARATION OF RADIOBARIUM AND RADIOSTRONTIUM FROM SOLUTIONS CONTAINING SULPHURIC ACID

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4713346

The exchange of radiobarium and radiostrontium with Ba and Sr carriers is achieved by dissolution of the sulfates in strong sulfuric acid. The sulfates are precipitated by dilution of the solution with water, and, after dissolution in ammoniacal E.D.T.A., the carbonates are precipitated by the addition of excess sodium carbonate and ferric ritrate. Precipitation of the nitrates by addition of fuming nitric acid is followed by an Fe scavenge and separation of the Ba and Sr by precipitation of barium chromate. The Ba and Sr analyses may be completed as described in AERE-AM 65 and AERE-AM 3 respectively. (auth)
