THE QUASI-ALPHA-PARTICLE MECHANISM OF THE PHOTOSPLITTING OF CARBON (in Russian)

The cross section for the C/sup 12/( gamma ,p)Be/sup 11/ reaction was calculated on the assumption of an alpha -particie association in the C/sup 12/ nucleus. The experimental cross section for the of the partial ( gamma ,p) cross sections for each quasi-alpha particle was multiplied by the probability of proton emission and triton capture of Be/sup 8/ to obtain the contribution of the quasi-alpha particles to the total cross section of a ( gamma ,p) reaction on C/ sup 12/. A comparison of the calculated results with experimental values shows that the interaction of gamma quanta with the quasi-alpha particles is the main contribution to the cross section of the C/sup 12/( gamma ,p)Be/sup 11/ reaction at gamma energies of 30 to 60 Mev. At higher gamma energies, the quasi-alpha particle mechanism gives way to a two-nucleon mechanism. (TTT)
