DEVICE FOR MONITORING THE PRESSURE TUBE OF A NUCLEAR REACTOR WHICH IS COOLED AND/OR MODERATED BY FLUID MEDIA
A pressure tube is described which consists of two tubes being disposed concentrically to each other and a ringshaped space between these two tubes which is filled up with an insulating compound, e.g., a ceramic material. Within the insulating compound there is an elongated hollow cylinder of an electrically conducting sheath which subdivides the ring-shaped space in two layers. For monitoring the pressure tube, the hollow cylinder is connected electrically via an ohmmeter with the outer tube. In the event of a failure of the tubes the electrical resistance of the insulating compound is greatly reduced by the infiltrating fluid medium so that its reduction can easily be detected.
