In the first phase of the research program, two integralreactor designs were selected for further study: the Vulcain pressurized-water reactor and the Integral Boiling Reactor. The details of each design are described, and expected development problems are discussed. The time scale of the project, costs, and reasons for the choice of integral reactors are also considered.
