CALIBRATION OF CAESIUM-137 CONTENT IN THE HUMAN BODY

Calibration of Cs/sup 137/ content in the human body was made using a whole-body counter with NaI (thallium) crystals. Cs/sup 132/Cl in water solution was then administered to male and female patients and the absolute activity of Cs/ sup 132/, in terms of disintegrations per min equivalent to Cs/sup 137, was evaluated by intercomparison with Cs/sup 137/ standard sources. The distribution of Cs/sup 132/ in the body of both patients was determined. Standard chair geometry was compared with scanning geometry. Results indicate that individual body build effects scanning geometry during whole-body counting and that the standard chair geometry has higher sensitivity than the scanning geometry. (C.H.)
