Magnetic moment considerations suggest resonance splitting in the Pa31( gamma ,n)P30 cross section. A reinvestigation of the cross section from threshold to 24 Mev is undertaken. The procedure is described, and a value of the half life is obtained as 2.497 plus or minus 0.005 min. Values of (3.37 plus or minus 0.03) x 107 reactions/g-atom-100 r and 12.45 plus or minus 0.05 Mev, respectively, are reported for the absolute yield and the threshold of the reaction. The cross section plot reveals a plateau at 16 Mev and peaks at 18.2 and 19.5 Mev with a maximum cross section of 19 mb at 19.5 Mev and a halfwidth of the giant resonance of 7.5 Mev. These values agree well with others' results.
