The design parameters for a long-life closed-loop magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) generator and pump in which a seeded gas is pumped around the loop under thermodynamic conditions approaching those expected in largescale MHD generators suitable for extraterrestrial applications are discussed. The status of the closed loop duct and its auxiliary components is reported. Experimental results from tests on a small straight-through MHD generator are presented. These tests on the straightthrough generator were run to obtain information on the closed loop project. (H.G.G.)
