14 Mev NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS USING A NEW ANALYTICAL INSTRUMENT (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Proc. Japan Conf. Radioisotopes
OSTI ID:4709062
Application of a new analytical instrument using a 14Mev neutron generator for industrial purposes is described. The instrument used is made up of three parts: a 14-Mev neutron generator (10/sup 10/ neutron/sec), an automatic control system, and a system of measurement. The neutron generator is a Cockcroft-Walton type accelerator and the automatic control system is equipped with sample transfer system and a C-R neutron monitoring system. The instrument is applicable to the nondestructive and rapid determination of oxygen in the metallic samples such as zircaloy, stainless steel, copper, iron, molybdenum, and tungsten. The precision of the analyical results made possible by this analytical instrument is plus or minus 5% at an oxygen level of 100 approximates 3000 ppm. The limit of determination is about 10 ppm of oxygen. The analyses of three samples are normally made in 1.0 minute. (JAIF)
