A multigroup library of absorption cross sections for samarium to be used with the ULCER, QUICKIE, and FAIM codes is presented. The methods of calculation discussed depend on the particular energy region under consideration. In the thermal energy range the zirconium hydride spectrum for the SNAP 2/10A core is computed with the QUlCKIE code and is used in flux-weighting cross sections based on BNL-325 data. In the epithermal and intermediate energy range, infinitely dilute resonance integrals are calculated by weighting the Breit- Wigner single-level resonance cross section with a 1/E flux spectrum. Unresolved the BNL-325 curve. It is necessary to include the 1/V contribution to sigma / sub a/ in the resonance region as a consequence of the approximation Eo approx equal E in integrating the Breit-Wigner formula. In a large part of the fast energy region, the absorption cross section as reported in BNL-325 is assumed to be zero. (auth)
