Production of monoenergetic gamma quanta by means of a bremsstrahlung beam is described, and application of the method in determining high-energy gamma detector efficiency is shown. The method is based on recording the gamma bremsstrahlung in coincidence with the emitting electron. Magnetic spectrometers are used for measuring the electron energy before and after emission. The difference determines the energy of the recorded gamma quantum. Electrons were produced by conversion in a lead target placed in a 265-Mev synchrotron bremsstrahlung beam. The method offers high energy resolution (%PX 1%). (tr-auth)
