THE QUANTITATIVE DETECTION OF RADIO-NUCLIDES, WHICH EMIT *gamma/ QUANTA IN CASCADE, WITH A SIMPLE *gamma/-*gamma/ COINCIDENCE ARRANGEMENT (THE INTERFERENCE FREE ACTIVATION ANALYSIS OF HAFNIUM TRACES IN ZIRCONIUM) (in German)

A simple spectrometer arrangement is described with which radioisotopes emitting cascade gamma rays can be quantitatively determined on the basis of gamma - gamma coincidences in the presence of other gamma emitters. As an example, the hafnium concentration in zirconium was measured. With the relatively poor resolution of the coincidence stage of about 0.4 mu sec, which can be attained easily, up to 5 ppm Hf can be detected in nuclear-pure Zr. Because of the high selectivity of the Hfsup 181/detection, chemical separations were only necessary when, in addition to the radioisotope to be determined, other radioisotopes emitting gamma quanta of corresponding energy were formed in the activation. In the Zr and Zircaloy samples examined in the present study, such interferences were not observed. (tr-auth)
