EFFECT OF THE NON-LINEAR RESPONSE OF NaI(Tl) ON THE SINGLE CRYSTAL SUMMING SPECTRA

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
The summing spectra of the two gamma and three gamma cascades in Lu/sup 177/, Co/sup 60/, Y/sup 88/, Na/sup 24/, Na/sup 22/, and Pm/s up 144/ were investigated with a 3 in. x 3 in. well type NaI(Tl) crystal. The sum peaks appear to shift to higher energy region because of the non-linear response of the NaI(Tl) crystal. The energy corresponding to the sum peak position was determined from a linear least square fit of the calibration points and the shift was determined in each case. The light output per kev was determined for a number of gamma rays of accurately known energy and was plotted as a function of the gamma-ray energy. The observed shifts are compared with the values expected on the basis of this light output per kev curve. (auth)
