The following thresholds have been measured in the ( alpha ,n) Si/sup 28/ 9.30 plus or minus 0.05, 10.55 plus or minus 10.05, 11.83 plus or minus 0.05, 12.78 plus or minus 0.05; S/sup 32/ 9.846 plus or minus 0.020, 10.89 plus or minus 0.0111.97 plus or minus 0.08; S/sup 34/ 5.17 plus or minus 0.10, 5.96 plus or minus 0.05, 6.90 plus or minus 0.05, 8ssults are in agreement with previously published results except for the S/sup 32/( alpha ,n)Ar/ sup 35/ ground threshold which is 140 kev higher than expected. To confirm the value of the mass of Ar/sup 35/, the Cl/sup 35/(p,n)Ar/sup 35/ threshold energy was measured and is 6.942 plus or minus 0.020 Mev. Since this result agrees with the accepted value of the Ar/sup 35/ mass, the 140-kev discrepancy was not resolved. In the C/sup 12/( alpha ,n)O/sup 15/ excitation curve a prominent resonance of half-width 220 plus or minus 60 kev was found corresponding to a level in O/sup 16/ of excitation 18.10 plus or minus 0.08 Mev. The cross section rises to about 22 mb at the peak of this resonance. Half-life determinations yielded the values: O/sup 15/ 122.6 plus or minus 1.0, S/sup 31/ 2.56 plus or minus 0.10, and Ar/sup 35/ 1.78 plus or minus 0.03 sec. (auth)
