A STUDY OF THE Li$sup 6$$($$alpha$,n)B$sup 9$ AND Li$sup 7$$($$alpha$,n)B$sup 10$ REACTIONS
The neutron yields from the Li/sup 6/( alpha ,n)B/sup 9/ and Li/sup 7/( alpha ,n)B/su p 10/ reactions were measured as a function of alpha particle bombarding energy from threshold to 15 Mev. The observed Li/sup 6/( alpha ,n)B/ sup 9/ reaction threshold energy is 6.623 plus or minus 0.020 Mev. Angular distributions of the emitted neutrons were measured at bombarding energies of 8.0, 10.0, 12.0, and 14.0 Mev and a spherical Bessel function squared fits to the data is presented. The excitation curve for the Li/sup 7/ target shows prominent resonances in contrast with the curve for the Li/sup 6/ target that increases monotonically with energy. The Li/sup 7/( alpha ,n)B/sup 10/ threshold energy determined in this experiment is 4.380 plus or minus 0.020 Mev. (auth)
