INVESTIGATION OF THE NUCLEAR REACTION B$sup 10$(n,/cap alpha/)Li$sup 7$ BY THE PHOTOEMULSION METHOD

An Agfa nuclear emulsion (K3), filled with boron, was irradiated with slow neutrons. By measurement of the ranges R ( alpha + Li/sup 7/) the energy of the reaction for cases of formation of a Li/sup 7/ nucleus in the the ground and excited states was measured. Values of 2.76 plus or minus 0.17 and 2.29 plus or minus 0.09 Mev respectively were obtained. The ratio of the probabilities of formation of a Li/sup 7/ nucleus in the ground and excited states is sigma STAB/sup 10/(n, alpha )Li/sup 7/!/ sigma (B/sup 10/(n, alpha )Li/ sup 7+/!=0,086 plus or minus 0.009.
