THE USE OF ELECTROSTATIC HIGH-VOLTAGE GENERATORS IN NUCLEAR PHYSICS (in German)

Journal Article · · Neue Technik See NT, Neue Tech.

The use of electrostatic generators in nuclear physics is discussed. The Van de Graaff or belt generator gives the highest voltages in electrical engineering, i.e., 8 to 10 Mv. The invention of the tandem'' accelerator further increased the scientific value of the belt machine, since it is likely to give ion energies up to 30 Mev by resorting to voltages which are only one half or even one third of that figure. The cylinder machine with hydrogen insulation extends the range of electrostatic generation towards higher currents (up to 50 ma) and powers (10 kw). It has found broad acceptance for many applications in the voltage range 50 to 1000 kv. (auth)
