Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/4703719· OSTI ID:4703719
The anhydrous acid HAlCl/sub 4/ is prepared by slow addition of metallic aluminum chips to cold diethyl ether saturated with anhydrous hydrogen chloride in a glass apparatus. The separation of ruthenium chloride from hydrochloric acid solutions by solvent extraction using TBP is reported. The solvent extraction of tantalum chloride from hydrochloric acid solutions into tri-n-butyl phosphate is studied where small additions of hydrofluoric acid are made to the solutions. The solvent extraction of ferric bromide from aqueous solutions by diethyl ether is discussed with respect to distribution ratios. (N.W.R.)
