The effects of addition of water and hydrogen chloride to anhydrous solutions of aluminum chloride in diethyl ether are compared with ferric chloride- ether system. Results of light absorption and conductance measurements are given. The preparation of ferric bromide and separation of ferric bromide from aqueous solutions by solvent extraction using diethyl ether are discussed. (N.W.R.)
