AVERAGE NUMBER OF PROMPT NEUTRONS EMITTED IN THE SPONTANEOUS FISSION OF U$sup 238$ AND Pu$sup 24$$sup 0$

Journal Article · · Nuclear Science and Engineering (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4703394
The average number, , of prompt neutrons emitted in the spontaneous fission of U/sup 238/ and Pu/sup 240/ was measured relative to for the spontaneous fission of Cf/sup 252/. This reference value is taken to be = 3.80. The measurements were performed with large liquid scintillators and the results obtained are /sub sp/(U/sup 238/) = 1.97 surface proces 0.07 and /sub sp/ (Pu/s up 240/) = 2.154 surface proces 0.028.
