Measurement of the average number of prompt neutrons emitted in fission at high energy

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4459970

A coincidence gate method has been used to determine the avearge number of neutrons emitted in fission, induced by neutrons at 2.5 and 14.1 MeV energy. Absolute values have been obtained by relating the measurements to the known spontaneous fission neutron rate of natural uranium. Some results are given for the fast fission of U233, U235, U238, Th232, and Pu239, and for spontaneous fission of Pu240.
