Descriptions are given of the methods used for measuring the average number and spectra of prompt neutrons emitted in fast fission of Th/sup 232/, U/ sup 233/, U/sup 235/, U/sup 238/ Np/sup 237/, and Pu/sup 239/. The dependence of the fission neutron spectrum on the excitation energy and A and Z values of fissionable nuclei is discussed. (W.D.M.)
