PRODUCTION OF HYPERFRAGMENTS FROM THE INTERACTIONS OF 50-300 Mev/c K$sup -$ MESONS WITH EMULSION NUCLEI

The production of hyperfragments in emulsions by the reaction of mesons(K/sup -/) in an intermediate momentum range of 50--300 Mev/c was investigated. The range distribution of the hyperfragments is given. The hyperfragments in the range grouping of 2-10 are attributed to the spallation products of light nuclei whereas those of longer range are mainly light hyperfragments of charge 1 or 2 emitted from both heavy and light nuclei. No mesonic decay was observed for hyperfragments of less than 2 range and the non-mesonic to mesonic decay ratio was found to be 6 for the range 2--10 and 1.5 for those greater than 10 . (C.E.S.)
