MEANS FOR PULSING AN ION BEAM

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4702222
A system for pulsing a beam of ionized particles consists of a collector with a narrow slit axially aligned with an ion source. Between the collector and source are placed deflecting plates applying a bias voltage that moves the beam to one side of the slit and a sweep beam that moves the beam across the slit. Pulses are transmitted during part of the fast-use-time leading edge of a rectangular (really trapezoidal) sweep deflection pulse. Very short pulses can be produced over a range of frequencies.
