KINETICS OF NIOBIUM CARBIDES AND NIOBIUM OXIDES REACTION IN A VACUUM (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Prikl. Khim.

Kinetic characteristics of niobiurn oxide and carbide reactions (NbC + 2NbO/sub 2/ = 3NbO + CO, Nb/sub 2/C + NbO = 3Nb + CO, and 5NbC + NbO/sub 2/ = 3Nb/ sub 2/C + 2CO at 1400 to 1700 c- C) showed that the rate of the process is a function of the size of components, compression, and gas evacuation rate. Kinetic difficulties were encountered during metallic niobium formation. Sintering and gas evacuation play an important part along with the diffusion process. (R.V.J.)
