DIFFUSION OF NIOBIUM AND CARBON INTO NIOBIUM AND ITS CARBIDES (in Russian)

Nb/sup 95/ and C/sup 14/ were used in determining the diffusion of Nb and C in metallic niobium and in some of its carbides. The activation energies were determined for niobium diffusion in metal (85 kcal/g-at.) and in its carblde NbC0 /sub 0.98/ (55 kcal/g-at.) as well as for carbon in niobium (32 kcal/gat.) and in NbC/sub 0.98/, NbC/sub 0.75/, and NbC/sub 0.5/ (~32 to 33 kcal/gat.).
