BIOCHEMICAL APPLICATIONS OF NEUTRON ACTIVATION CHROMATOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS

The processes of paper chromatography and neutron activation analysis were combined to obtain quantitative and qualitative analyses of organic compounds and certain inorganic ions. The substances analyzed were separated by paper chromatography (for qualitative analysis) and then activated in a neutron flux (for quantitative analysis). Compounds without activable atoms were assayed by conversion to bromine derivatives or other atoms with suitable neutron capture cross sections. Application of neutron activation chromatography for phospholipid and sugar phosphate is reviewed. (H.M.G.)
