IONIZATION OF POSITIVE IONS BY ELECTRONS (in Russian)
Ionization of singly charged (Hg/sup +/, Xe/sup +/, Kr/sup +/, Ar/sup +/ , and Ne/sup +/) and doubly charged (Hg/sup 2+/, Xe/sup 2+/, Kr/sup 2+/) ions by electrons was investigated using the method of crossed electron and ion beams in a double mass spectrometer. A diagram is given of relative cross sections for various ionizations as a function of electron. For 150 kev electrons the relative effective cross sections sigma /sub max/ were 1.0 p +/, Ne/sup +/, Hg/ sup 2+/, Xe/sup 2+/, and Kr/sup 2+/, respectively. The order of er ror for the relative cross section magnitudes was plus or minus 30%. The results indicate that the effective cross sections for single ionization are not a function of the initial ion charge. (R.V.J.)
