A method is given for producing sheathed reactor fuel elements which have reduced sheath thickness and increased heat transfer properties. The method comprises forming a series of fuel pellets in which the diameter of alternate pellets is greater than that of the other pellets, enveloping the pellets in a sheath, and deforming the sheath to form corrugations. Longitudinal folds may also be formed in the sheath. (D.L.C.)
