Low inertia isothermal dilatometry was used to determine the curves for the beginning and end of the transformation of the retained BETA phase by tempering from the BETA + gamma /sub 1/ range in the U--Nb alloy with 2.5 at.% Nb. The kinetics of this transformation were studied. The activation energy of the transformation is estimated to be about 14,500 cal/mol. (tr-auth)
