STUDY OF THE ISOTHERMAL TRANSFORMATION KINETICS OF THE RETAINED /cap beta/ PHASE IN URANIUM-CHROMIUM ALLOYS BY TEMPERING WITH WATER FROM THE /cap beta/RANGE (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. Rend.
OSTI ID:4698386
Low-inertia thermal dilatometry, described previously (Compt. rend. 255, 3185(1962)), was used to study the isothermal transformation kinetics of the retained phase in U -- Cr alloys. In isothermal condition, the transformation law is 1 - x = exp STA-(kt)/sup n/!, where x is the degree of transformation, k a coefficient, and n an exponent independent of time. The activation energy is 14,000 cal/mole for the bainitic transformation of alloys containing less than 1 at.% Cr and 35,000 cal/mole for the transformation by germination and growth of alloys containing more than 1 at.% Cr.
