Lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) content of serum, as well as in extracts of skeleton muscle, heart muscle, lungs, skin, brain, kidney, liver, small inte stine, spleen, and testes of total-body x irradiated rats, was determined. The determinations were done on the 3rd day after irradiation with 1 x 1000 r or between the 3rd and 120th hour after irradiation with 10 x 100 r. The LDH content was decreased in serum, in skeleton muscle, and in small intestine 3 days after irradiation with 1 x 1000 r, while it increased in the testes. In comparison with the non-irradiated organ the LDR content in the small intestine was considerably decreased after 10 x 100 r; in the other organs the LDH content showed indefinite oscillations. There was no correlation between the LDH content of an organ and its radiation sensitivity in our experimental rats. There was also no correlation between the extent of the morphological damage of one organ and its LDH displacement in the irradiated animals. (auth)
