Reactions in which a large number (from 5 to 8) of nucleons are transferred under the action of heavy ions are investigated. Th/sup 232/ targets were irradiated by Ne/sup 22/ ions and the alpha -active Th/sup 227/, Ac/sup 226/ , Ac/sup 225/, and Ac/sup 224/ products w ere recorded. The dependences of the cross sections for production of these isotopes on the incident ion energies were measured. They gradually rise from 10/sup -30/ cm/sup 2/ near the Coulomb barrier to st run. Concent 10/sup 27/ cm/sup 2/ at an energy 154 Mev. Angular distributions of recoil nuclei of the indicated isotopes are obtained at energies of 150 and 120 Mev. They are peaked near the Rutherford angle. The positions of the peaks of the various isotopes are different, the larger the number of transferred nucleons, the larger the angle corresponding to the maximum of the cross section. The dependences measured cannot be described by existing models of the mechanism of transfer reactions. (auth)
