REACTOR INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL PROGRESS REPORT NO. 79

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4694564
Testing of beryllia and thoria dielectric specimens for the probe-type temperature sensors at 3000 to 4000 deg F was continued. The 2800 deg F integrated probe and readout system refinements were continued. Testing of fission counters and fission counter components to 1500 deg F, and d-c ionization chamber components to 1200 deg F was continued. A split collector was made and tested at 1000 deg F. Two cylindrical gridded a-c ionization chambers and four charged-fragment detectors were tested under x-ray and thermal neutron flux. Operation of a compensated a-c ionization chamber was investigated. Construction of three charged-fragment neutron detectors with an alphaparticle absorber applied over the boron-10-coated electrode was continued. (N.W.R.)
