NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4694220
An arrangement for measuring the temperature in an inner specimen of a vertical column of fuel elements that rest on each other in a reactor channel by means of cups and cones is described. The specimen is provided with a thermocouple, the leads of which are connected with two electrical contacts in the upper cup. The cups and cones of the higher fuel elements are also each provided with two electrical contacts, the contacts of adjacent elements touching each other while the contacts at the extremities of a same element are two and two connected by electrical cables. Thus an electrical connection between the thermocouple and the top cup of the column is realized. The connection leading to the outside of the coolant channel is effected by means of a telescopic member that is placed on top of the column and that is provided with sliding contacts that contact fixed contacts in the channel wall.
