Fluoride is separated by distillation from sulfuric acid solution. An aliquot of the distillate is titrated with thorium nitrate solution using alizarin red S or chrome azurol S as indicator. It is applicable from 5 g/ml fluoride to 1.5% as written. The method is considered to be free from bias. At the 0.37% level the standard deviation is 0.005%. (auth)
