NEW METHOD FOR ELIMINATING RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINATION

It was confirmed that ultrasound can be used successfully to decontaminate surface areas contaminated with radioactive substances. Good results were obtained in tests under laboratory conditions. Ultrasound quickly and completely eliminated contamination from surface areas of glass, polyvinyl chloride, rubber, and Al. To deactivate surface areas of inorganic substances, an ultrasound generator with a frequency of 20 to 40 kc was used. To decontaminate surface areas of organic substances, an ultrasound generator used for therapeutic purposes can be used. (TCO)
