ULTRASONIC DECONTAMINATION OF SURFACES CONTAMINATED WITH IODINE-131

Journal Article · · Glasnik Hem. Drustva, Beogra.
OSTI ID:4694269
Five minutes of ultrasonic decontamination in water proved to be effective (nearly 90%) on nickel, zinc, and aluminum. It had considerable effect on polyvinyl chloride but the material cracked under the effect. It had a faster effect than one hour of water on rubber and plexiglass, but had such a low effect on lead, copper, and brass as not to be useful. The effect was found to be higher in detergent solution. The decontamination effect depends not on the shape of the object but on the type of surface and the kind of material. The effect on a polished and smooth surface is much better than on a rough surface. (TCO)
