A SIMPLE CHARGED-PARTICLE DETECTOR FOR MAGNETIC ANALYZERS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods
A charged-particle detector which distinguishes and counts particles from a magnetic analyzer is described which uses a single photomultiplier tube whose output pulse height depends on the position of the input signal on the tube face. The response characteristics of several tubes in conjunction with CsI(Tl) crystals for such use were studied using a Po/sup 210/ alpha source. It was found possible to construct a single phototube detection system whose output pulse height is linearly related to the position of the input light pulse, and resolution of 6 to 8% was found.
